The next best thing to traveling up to Churchill at a fraction of the cost, this tour offers NASBR attendees a behind-the-scenes peek at one the world’s best arctic exhibits and a chance to see polar bears, and other arctic wildlife, up close. The tour starts with a visit to the 10-acre exhibit, featuring unobstructed views of various northern species. The animal care team will walk you through some of their conservation and research work and guide you through the Sea Ice Passage underwater viewing tunnels where, with luck, you’ll see bears swimming overhead. The Aurora Borealis Theatre offers a stunning display of the Northern Lights and an eight-minute film, Rhythms of the North. The visit ends with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and visit to the Churchill Coast and town site to learn about co-existing with polar bears and northern wildlife. At the end of the tour, you are welcome to continue exploring the other exhibits at the zoo and throughout Assiniboine Park, or make your way back to the hotel to get ready for the Spallanzani Curling Funspiel at 2 pm.
